Paws graced over the foliage, a form weeved through the forest. A frown marred the blue maw of the gray femora. She'd been staying in the forest for a rather long time with no contact to the pack unless Kaizun called everyone, other than those moments she kept to herself. Why? Ever since Cadence became Beta she felt she would only bother him if she went to mingle with him. Cadence had been the one she found a somewhat friendship in. They had been captured by the humans, stuck together then, and then reunited after escaping before they were to be at a pack meeting where Cadence had been crowned as Beta of the Alpine pack.

A sigh escaped her muzzle as she plopped on her haunches wrapping her blue, white tipped, tail around her side as she closed her ocean blue eyes. Her pendent shimmered before a blue mist began to curl up in front of her. When she opened her eyes she found that of a small fox, perhaps a young pup that had barely began life, sitting in front of her with it's head cocked to the side in curiosity. "Hrm..." She pondered to herself, perhaps she let her mind slip and she subconsciously summoned the little creature.

No matter, atleast she now had company. "What's your name kit..." She murmured to it and she saw the fox smile as her eyes curved while she got up on her feet. The fox made a small circle before bounding away from Amaya. Amaya tilted her head before she got up and followed after the Spirit. Soon enough the following turned into a game of chase and Amaya found herself grinning as she chased after the kit who floated through the air remaining only a few paw steps in front of her. Amaya pulled to a stop when the spirit leaped from a ledge and she peered down it. It wasn't a long drop, but one that would catch someone unexpected and most likely hurt them in surprise. She watched as the spirit twisted and twirled through the air down and down until it reached the bottom and took off again.

Amaya grinned humorously before she leaped off and landed in an omph as she skidded down the side. She crouched as she began to come upon the ground before she shoved off the edge and took off in a sprint after the spirit intent on catching it as a small sign of mirth coiled inside her. Unusual? Indeed it was, but she always enjoyed playing with spirits.

She was avoiding him. Ever since he had been named Beta, Amaya had been doing her best to eliminate the possibility of them being near each other for more than two minutes. And all it did was serve to make Cadence more aggrivated and irritable than normal. Why was she doing this? Was she upset that he had been named and she hadn't, even though he had been here for a shorter amount of time? Cadence himself hadn't expected it. What had she wanted him to do? Spit in Kaizun's face after already upsetting him when Cade was hardly fit to walk?

Cade was in better shape now. His body, which had been so emaciated that it had caused pain to move, had begun to fill out again. He had always been lean, but he was still a little leaner than normal. His fur at least, had developed the healthy matte shine it had wore before the upwalkers had taken him. Though not quite the wolf he had been, Cadence was on his way toward a full recovery. He was still quite young, and there was time for him. How was Amaya doing? He wondered. He hadn't had the chance to ask. She hadn't given him the chance to ask.

His dark body wound around a boulder, and as his body rubbed against it, he was reminded of the dreary midnight he first came into these lands. Of the night he became Alpine. He had been traveling, and in the night he had bedded down near a boulder and called to the constellations. And then Kaizun had caused the world to go black, as a 'test,' and he had been accepted into the Alpine Pack. It all seemed so long ago.

His voice released a low growl of contemplation that was silenced upon the site of movement ahead between the trees. It had only been a flicker, but he had seen it. Navy and Gray. Amaya.

Like a shot, he took off after the flicker he had seen-- weaving between trees, his scared paws falling almost silently in the ground as he worked to move his large, bony frame after her.

Soon, her lithe frame came into view and Cadence moved faster until he was moving in time next to her. He said nothing, just kept pace.

She couldn't help but laugh as the fox spirit suddenly realed around and rushed at her causing her to skid to a stop and duck just as the spirit rushed over her head brushing against her audits. She grinned, spun around, and lopped after the spirit again. She ran and ran, enjoying the wind through her fur and watching the spirit dance around the air. Then there was a faint sound, a moving of paws across the ground. One moment she was running by herself with just the spirit, the next a familiar form was running along side her, didn't say a word, but matched her pace exactly. She looked at him out the side of her eyes.

Finally she looked away when he remained silent and slowly stopped her run, slowing into a jog, and soon a walk, then finally slowling to a stop. Her chest heaved with light pants as the Fox spirit whirled around her form before perching itself atop her head looking curiously at Cadence. "What brings you here?" She asked quite distatched from her words. She felt awkward, her friend was now a higher rank than her. She was torn from showing him his deserved respect or showing friendship too him. She had no idea if you could do both and so she assumed you could only do one.

She slowly sat back curling her tail around her side as the fox rolled from her head to perch at the front of her paws. She gazed down at the kit in a mild humor before swirling her eyes a different direction, but kept an ear perked towards Cadence to let him know she was not ignoring him. She made a light frown as she pondered to herself. Shaking her head lightly she finally turned her gaze to Cadence and waited his answer.

Running next to her, Cade realized that she wasn't running for the sake of running, but rather, that she was chasing something-- a spirit in the shape of a fox. They kept moving in silence, and Cade, never much of a big talker anyway, was content with this. If running side by side was the only way she would allow them to be in each other's company, he's run to the moon and back and then to the moon again.

As she slowed, so did he, never once surging forward, and never once falling behind. Cade wondered, ever so vaguely, whether or not she did this often. Chasing spirits of her own design. Stopping, the spirit approached, and settled on Amaya's head. It was, perhaps, one of the most curious sites the dark brute had seen in his life. Amaya was panting a little, and while Cade was breathing heavily, he wasn't panting yet.

What had brought him here? She asked the question, and Cade wasn't sure of the answer. For once though, he didn't snap about it. Why had he followed Amaya? Was it to ask how she was feeling? Was it to confront her about the habit she had developed that involved her avoiding him? Even now, a certain awkward air that hadn't been there before permeated the area. And Cade hated it. It almost upset him. She wouldn't focus her attention on him when she had asked for him to speak. Eventually, after the kit on her head moved to her feet and Amaya turned her attention back to Cade. What brings him here? "You."

It was his simply reply that brought Amaya to bring her gaze to meet his in a slight wonder. The spirit's fur ruffed a moment before twirling into itself before disappearing before their eyes. Her? Why would he come here just for her? She pried her gaze off of him as she soon felt herself relaxing again. Perhaps she was being a foolish child with the way she was seeing this. She knew back at her old pack, before she was kicked out, one of her best friends had became a higher rank than her and the next thing she knew she was merely a ghost that he never once looked at again. Her tail twitched at the thought of her old pack and a dark look passed behind her eyes before it was gone as quick as it came. "I see..." She could feel her muzzle twitch with a grin that was wanting to show itself, but she refused it. For all she knew he was here strictly on 'business' than just to see her.

She suddenly blinked. No one had known she could summon spirits, now he did. She gave a light shrug at that thought and cast it aside to ponder on later. She closed her eyes a moment. It had been a long while since she summoned a spirit, and doing it subconsciously only made her a bit more tired than usual. Shaking it off mentally she opened her eyes and looked at Cadence, this time not looking so detached this time. "How you been, Cade?" She asked curiously, truely genuine in her question of his wellbeing. She had missed conversing with him, but with him being a Beta now she always figured him to busy to just simply hang around.

The way she stared at him made him slightly uncomfortable, but also relieved. The emotion was hard to describe. It made him feel like she was disecting him with her eyes. Like she was going to slice his brain into little pieces and steal his thought process. And yet... that look let him know she wasn't upset, or, at least, very upset with him. Her muzzle twitched after she looked away from him, and he could tell that she was hiding a smile from him. Lifting his head slightly, his muzzle twitched, hiding a smile of his own. One side of him muzzle sticking to his teeth, giving off a somewhat comical appearence. Cade was, dare he think it? Pleased, if not happy he had made her smile... even if she chose to keep it hidden from him.

When she closed her eyes, some of Cade's happiness evaporated faster than smoke. Was she upset again? He felt like he was walking on coals, and no matter how much he did to put them out they kept flaring up. For the large, black brute, it was frustrating. However, when she opened her eyes the awkwardness began to dissapate. Perhaps he was just paranoid. He didn't really know.

How had he been, she had asked. No awkward air. No attempts to leave. Why brought him here? So many things were overwhelming his mind and senses it made it hard for him to think clearly. How had he been? "Lonely."

Lonely. That was the first time in his life he had ever given that answer. His orange, jack-o-lantern eyes were watching her, just like they always did. He had missed her. Cadence, the wolf with no home and no alpha, had been lonely. Things certainly had changed.

There was another curt answer. What, did he loose his vocabul...- Her thought process suddenly ceased functioning as his single word fully absorbed. She could have gapped at him, Cadence had actually said such a word?! Holding it in, she merely stared at him again. Had she been anyone but Amaya she would have gone all giddy like any femora would over such a simple word spoken from a handsome brute. Wait...since when did she start seeing Cade as handsome anyhow?! She shook her head and a light chuckle slipped from her muzzle before she could contain it. How could she not? It was Cadence for Animus' sake! How could she not chuckle at such a word coming from the brute's muzzle. This time, at the twitch of her muzzle, she allowed the grin to pull back her muzzle. "And loneliness brought you here then I am guessing?" It was just a way to keep a conversation up, and then maybe perhaps remind him that he, Cadence, had uttered the word himself.

Her blue audits twitched, swerved to the side as the sound of leaves and twigs rustling and snapping in half. The scent of elk soon drifted into her nostrils and she looked off into the direction. When was the last time she had something other than small rabbits? Unconsciously she slid her tongue over her chops in a hungry sort of fashion before she was quick to shake it off and turned her attention away from the creature not eleven tails away. "So how's life as Beta? Kaizun keeping you busy?" She asked idly, half interested and the other half not quite that interested.

She lifted a single paw up, a bluish light swirling around to the tip of her claw before a small racoon swirled into view, glowing the same blue color that had swirled around Amaya's paw, "By the way...I can summon spirits..." She gave a half teasing grin as she winked at him. Sure she knew he probably already deducted that, but she felt better now that she actually told him one of her gifts.

Amaya could laugh? What the hell? Had the world stopped turning? Was he dreaming? Was he dead? The dark wolven was amazed that Amaya allowed herself to laugh, when before, she wouldn't even smile. And then, it occurred to him. She was laughing at him. Well, rather, what he had said. She would never let him live this down. At this, he heaved a sigh. It was humourous, but also served as an epiphany for him. He had changed much since he had joined the Alpine and subsequentially been kidnapped by humans. To be honest, it scared him a little. What would happen if trouble began to cloud this place? Looking at the finally smiling she-wolf, he wondered. Would he be able to leave? Something told him that he couldn't. Or wouldn't. Or both. He hadn't decided which would be easier to admit. As it was she wanted to know if the loneliness brought him here, and, he was sure now, that it had.

His large dark ears swivelled at the same time hers did, and he too could taste the elk on his tongue. Elk would be nice, but he had the feeling he wasn't quite ready to take on one of them by himself. Of course, he'd never admit it. Ever. While his mind was still registering this, though, again she brought up Kaizun and the fact that he was beta. Why in the howling hell did it matter if he was Beta, anyway? For Cadence, things had been mostly the same as he'd been getting better. The only difference was that Amaya decided she didn't want to be around him.

At the comment about spirits, his response was nothing more than look that read something along the lines of a sarcastic 'Really? You don't say!' His gutteral voice was naturally quiet, though it carried and gave the impression of a louder voice. "I'm here because I want to be." His eyes looked at her, dancing in the slivers of light that filtered through the roof of the forest above them. "Not because Kaizun sent me."

Audits perked forward as Cade spoke. The words seemed to settle in and she felt herself try and relax, but there was a deeper side that told her not too. He was still her Beta now, and maybe she still resented the fact that he had been giving the position, but wouldn't any other wolf who had been in the pack longer? Finally she let one side win the inner battle and she looked away from Cadence. He was here on his own, not because Kaizun probably sent him. Maybe their friendship wouldn't change just because Cadence was appointed Beta.

With a much friendlier and normal note she use to speak to him in she asked, "You up for a hunt?" She looked at him out the corner of her eye. Eager to hear his response and hoping it would be an agreement. She hadn't had a nice taste of elk in a long while and shew as more than anxious to sink her fangs deep into the juicy meat of the herbivore.

It was somewhat disappointing that Amaya was so insecure and paranoid about him being near her. His jaw almost twisted into a frown, but he tightened his jaw and held it in place so that it would not. Cadence could not even stomach the idea of Amaya being repulsed by his presence. So he did his best not to think about it, though his best was a rather poor job at it's pinnacle.

To his relief, when she spoke again, she was acting slightly more on the normal side. However, he couldn't shake the thoughts that plagued him. Was she sincere? Or was she faking? Did she want him to leave her be? Or did she actually want him near her? It was perplexing, but, then again, Cade never understood she-wolves all that well.

Cadence couldn't see the harm in the prospect of a hunt. He, himself could do with the nutrition, and Amaya could as well. They had both been through the same ordeal, and Cadence liked to think it brought them closer together. The skinny, dark pelted brute pulled his body from the ground-- joints, particularly his vertabrae, popping. "Certainly, milady." He stated, with a dip of his angular head-- body tensed and ready for the hunt.

She watched him a moment longer before shaking it off and heading in the direction of the elk. Though, it felt utterly wrong to be walking in front of him now. Why? Because he was beta, because he was the one suppose to be leading her now. Quickly she wiped the thought from her mind and slipped into the trees tracking down the elk that she knew were near by. Had everyone felt like this when a friend had been chosen for a higher rank? Felt like they could no longer hold the ties of friendship since there was much more that would be expected of that particular friend?

Oh well, maybe sometime soon she'll become acustome to him being Beta and it would all go back to normal; hopefully. She came around a tree only to stop instantly. Damnit, to lost in thought and now she found herself facing the herd already! Silently she stood stock-still staring at the herd that seemed to be unconcerned as of yet.

Her tail twitched and she lowered herself to the ground very slowly. Oh well, if they ran early that would only make it even more a challenge to have to chase them down as well, though she was unsure if she was up to that yet. She was still a bit down from being with the humans for so long. Quietly she watched them, not daring to yet move.

Cadence followed Amaya toward the direction of the elk and the hunt, though, he split off from her soon after they started for them. No use in having them enter from the same side and leaving them more of a chance to escape. They'd bring down one of the large, skittish beasts.

He still couldn't get over how Amaya seemed to want to be anywhere but with him. He was in better spirits (if it was possible for him to be) after she had seemed to relax slightly, but it still tugged away at him. What had he done to her? Had his promotion really put that much strain on their friendship? They were the Alpines who had survived captivity together. No one else in the pack understood that bond. No one in the pack could replace it. What was the matter with her? For that, what was the matter with him? Since when did he start caring?

It upset him, and his long tapered muzzle just pushed through the brush as he crept along what he hoped was the opposite side of the elk from where Amaya had ended up. Cadence could smell them. They were close. His body automatically sunk to the ground, and inched forward through the ferns and manzanita and other brush that grew on the forest floor. He stopped just when they were in view, practically laying on the ground. They had forgotten to say who would lead the attack. Was it supposed to be Cadence, or had Amaya assumed it would be her because this hunt was her idea? Not wanting to upset her anymore than he apparently already had, he too, waited.

Minutes ticked by and she huddled in plain site for the elk to spot her, but not a one lifted it's head, perked its ears in her direction. Stupid beasts, didn't even know when danger was lurking right in the open. A sigh escaped her muzzle and she tried to set her mind on only the hunt, but it didn't seem to want to just think about that. Honestly she wasn't sure why Cadence being promoted to Beta was such a rough thing to take in. She knew it upset her for minimum reasons. One she had been here longer, but didn't really stick around with the other wolves. She didn't really necissarily want to be Beta, so why did she see him becoming the Pack Beta something that would effect their friendship and what bond they had made when they were captured by the humans?

Shaking her head slowly she narrowed her eyes as her fur stiffled. It wasn't none of his fault and she knew she was being down right mean for trying to avoid her new Beta. Wait...who was suppose to be leading this hunt? She wasn't sure if it was suppose to be her, or if Cade since he was a higher rank. With a frown she tried to make up her mind. Deciding that since he hadn't yet shown his position to the elk that she would take up the role of the lead hunter.

Silently she moved a paw out of under her and shifted her weight. One more paw and a rustle of grass and an elks head went up instantly, nose twitching and ears swivling as it looked for the disturbance. When it snorted and spotted her, Amaya lunged at the herd, sending them into a chaotic mass of elks trying to escape. Quickly she picked out the best one she thought they would be able to bring down. Finding it in the middle of all the elk, she sprinted and dodged flailing elk that she rushed by. Ears pinned back as she just barely missed a kicking hoof.

Fangs caught that of a leg, marking which one she had went after. Backing off before the elk could injure her, Amaya bared fangs as her fur bristled. Her pendant shimmered, but she ignored the voice in her head. She could do this...she wasn't alone, Cade was still here; somewhere.

Cadence waited, body tensed and low to the ground for Amaya to signal. Hopefully, she wouldn't assume he wanted too because he was Beta. To be honest, he wasn't much of a hunter-- especially with other people. One stray bite or one too many, and the acid saliva would infect the meat-- making it inedible for anyone else, and causing illness or death to anyone else to attempted to eat it. It was risky for him to be doing this, but Amaya had wanted to, and he didn't want to do anything to upset her. He didn't want to risk it. He'd just have to make his rush count.

Adrenaline racing through him, he waited, doing everything in his control to keep from twitching. When Amaya moved, he could feel it in everything around him. The earth, the air, in every fibre of his being, and it didn't take long for him to follow. Despite his bandy legs and tall frame, his body was so low to the ground it was as if he were a snake and he were slithering.

Amaya was attatched to a leg-- not a wound that would kill the beast. Cadence decided that he would go for the neck, and, if he was lucky, it would fell the great, stamping beast. Navigating the legs of the large creatures, he came to the one where Amaya was struggling. Bunching his muscles, he flung his body into the air-- his jaws clamping just below the throat of the animal, but far enough up where he had to hang there by his mouth with his feet dangling and swinging precariously whichever direction the elk decided to go. He only hoped that his grip and the acid that was his saliva would work its way into the animal and kill it, before it injured him, or worse, Amaya.

Audits twitched and moved as she kept pace with the targetted elk. Her tongue lolled to the side as she huffed a moment for breath that seemed to be scarce in her lungs. It angered her, to still be feeling the effects of her time with the humans. She was at the point of giving up the thought of ever becoming normal again. Seeing Cadence race along before throwing himself at the beast and latching onto it's neck and dangle there.

She shifted and sped her pace. On the next few steps she pushed herself off the ground with her back paws launching herself at the elk. Front claws dug into the flanks of the elk. She slipped a bit and claws raked over the elk causing it to buck it's hind legs managing to slam a hoof into her right flank. Fur bristled in anger as she kicked her back feet. Claws caught the flesh of the bucking hind legs and she was able to push herself up onto the back of the fleeing beast.

That was just great. Now she had an injured leg to go along with her unhealthy body. She scrambled up the back of the Elk trying to keep from falling off the slowing down elk. Claws tore the flesh to shreds when she would slip and when she reached the shoulders of the elk she shoved herself off the back. Her fangs caught the horns as she flew over them. The momentum flung her around and managed to knock the elk right over. sending it flipping right over her back and slamming against the ground. She panted as she plopped against the ground in a sit. She didn't even bother to look and make sure Cade had managed to get free of the elk before it flipped over against the ground. Rather she left him to finish killing the elk that was now on the ground flailing about as if to kick it's last defense.
